People worry excessively for at least a six-month period about common life matters, such as finances, family or health, when there are no signs of trouble.

Although excessive worry is the main symptom, other indicators may include:

  • "My family calls me a 'worry-wart'. I guess that fits. I seem to worry about everything. I have a good job, but I'm always wondering if my company will lay me off (even though I was 'the most valuable employee' this year). If I lost my job, would we have to sell our home –and where would we live? My two boys are good kids, but I can't sleep at night because I worry about their grades at school, their friends and every other 'what-ifs' that could happen to them. I can't seem to stop my worry machine and I'm getting exhausted."
